What a will does
Your wishes, in writing, the way Florida requires
A will is the foundation of most estate plans. It tells the court and your family what you want — and who you trust to carry it out.
- Names who inherits your property
- Names a personal representative to settle your estate
- Names a guardian for minor children
- Leaves specific items through a personal property memorandum
- Coordinates with trusts, deeds, and beneficiary designations
Florida signing requirements
- You must sign at the end of the will.
- Two witnesses must sign in your presence and in the presence of each other.
- A self-proving affidavit, signed before a notary, makes the will easier to admit to probate later.
- Handwritten wills are not valid in Florida unless they are properly witnessed.
Every Accord plan includes detailed signing and execution instructions so your will is signed correctly.
